This reportage shows the moment which follows immediately the crossing of the finish line in the cross-country skiing freestyle individual competition, on the distance of 7.5 km for male athletes and 5 km for female athletes.
The classic documentation celebrating sports performance and records is replaced by an anti-rhetorical view, altering the perspective and the timing of the shooting, to grasp the most intimate instant that follows the athletic action. Falling down on the ground exhausted is in fact the result of a physical total commitment, motivated mainly by the ambition to get it, to achieve the result, to challenge him/her own self in the name of the scores.
After crossing the finish line the athletes wholly surrender, while the shortness of breath and silence take the scene. Only later on they will rise again, returning to everyday vertical position and finding the view a naked podium and the horizon of indistinguishable flags, where the symbols of victory and nationality fade in the mist.
