In the nineties, at the height of a fad inspired by vintage culture, new-burlesque musicals were born, and from these a form of “dark cabaret”. Among the most famous names in the contemporary scene of this form of art there are Immodesty Blaize, Dirty Martini, Julie Atlas Muz, the Pontani Sisters, Catherine D’Lish, Dita Von Teese.
After its rebirth in American showbiz, the burlesque musicals made their way to Italy. Many contemporary celebrities have been inspired by the burlesque musical culture and their performance on stage often reflects such influence: among them Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani and Lady Gaga.
This photographic work carried out by Graziano Panfili was done within the Micca Club in Rome, where the first Academy of Burlesque was founded, a structure which has always had a very important role in the international scene of the art of Burlesque.
